One aspect of VO we're always supporting is community interaction. As a member, you can be an active participant in the development of this website. That's where the Publish content options come into play.

Blog entry: post a new submission to your blog. All entries must have a title and a rating. See our FAQ on the rating system used at this website. If applicable, you may select a related category. To edit a previous blog entry, select it from My account or My blog under the User menu.

Forum topic: post a new message to our forums. You must choose a category:

  • Creatures of the Night: a catch-all forum for discussions about vampyre myths, legends and realities. Also includes discussions of vamps in the literary and cinematic worlds.
  • Life & Times: discussions not specifically revolving around vampyres and their kin, but are still related to a gothic/spiritual lifestyle.
  • General Topics: discussions relating to this website, including introductory messages from new members. Also think of it as a catch-all forum for posts that don't fall under the first two categories.

Poll: create a poll, which other members and visitors can answer. By default, polls will be open indefinitely; if you want to set a time limit, choose it from the Poll duration drop-down list.

Story: this type of submission falls under three main content types; you must choose one sub-category in order to properly tag your submission, and you must also include a title and a rating.

  1. Articles: any document relating to an aspect of vampires or vampirism; typically a research paper or other information document.

    • From Fear to Fascination: Reports examining our love/hate relationship with creatures of the night, including speculative work about what makes vampyres "tick."
    • On the Page, Stage and Screen: Documents relating to those creatures created for our entertainment.
    • The Vampyre, His Kith and Kin: A look at vampyres throughout history: the myths, the legends and the "real" vampyres.

  2. Crimson Quill:
    • Fan Fiction: your own stories relating to existing characters or novels written by established authors (e.g. Lestat, Vampire: The Masquerade, The Dresden Files)
    • Poetry: your own poetry
    • Short Story: your own short story

  3. News:
    • Fangdom: news relating to the characters found in vamp books and films, including the actors, writers, etc.
    • Truth & Consequences: news relating to true (and often bizarre) stories of vampirism.
    • VO Site News: any news relating to this site, typically used by moderators and administrators.

I have aged as time's worn on
And now my life is nearly gone
A life of war and battles many
Plundered cities and now I'm ready
To battle with my final foe
I will face the Reaper's blow

I have but one wish of my death
It be in battle mong horses breath
Gleaming steel and flowing blood
Dying men and victory's flood

I wish not to die on my throne
Be in the field my final groan
There have been battles I have lost
And my life they've nearly cost

What are you doing this Halloween?
Many of us celebrate Halloween in different ways -- we dress up, we go out, or we stay at home and offer sweets to the small ghouls and ghosts who trick us for treats. But what of those who give us a scare the other 364 days a year? VO recently contacted a few authors writing in the vampire genre, and asked them one simple question: "What are you doing this Halloween?"

October 13, 2007 (NorthWest Herald / Geneva White) -- It isn't easy being a bat. Everyone seems to be frightened of you. They accuse you of having rabies and sucking blood. Women are terrified that you'll fly into their hair.

So languid in your carefree world,
My voice lost to the wind.
Watching, waiting.
We danced through the cobalt night,
And it was right for just a minute.
For a moment I soar,
As I picture you here;
A friend.
Yet your voice speaks against your face;
Your words like fire,
The dark mist of dreams burnt off by your laugh.
I swear it won't be like this again,
Until I see your smile
And forget your laugh.
