April 19, 2007 (Independent Online / Irene Kuppan / SOUTH AFRICA) -- Paramedics on Wednesday saved the life of a man claiming to be a vampire and intent on committing suicide. The man, believed to be aged about 40, was discovered hanging on the wrong side of a bridge railing above railway lines along Argyle Road.

ER 24 spokesperson Neil Noble said: "It looked like he wanted to jump from the bridge onto the train tracks below."

Paramedics Derrick Banks and Justin Chellan, who were travelling along the road at the time, approached the man to convince him not to jump.

"I couldn't believe my eyes, we were driving along and then saw this. It felt like we were watching a movie," said Chellan.

According to paramedics, the extremely anxious and frightened man told them: "I am actually a vampire."

"He definitely wanted to kill himself. He warned us to stay away or he would jump," said Banks.

Paramedics spent more than an hour talking to the man, who identified himself as Ronald.

Noble said: "They reassured the man that they did care and that nobody was there to harm him. Eventually they convinced him to go back to the safe side of the railing, where he was taken into police custody."

While paramedics said that the man was not physically injured, he did admit to a history of physical, sexual and drug abuse.

April 30, 2007 (Yahoo! News / GEORGETOWN, Guyana) -- A crowd of Guyanese villagers lynched an elderly woman they accused of being an evil spirit who drinks the blood of human babies, police said Monday. Authorities in the South American country said the woman raised suspicions with unusual behavior and was set upon by villagers who apparently believed she was an "Old Higue" — the equivalent of a vampire in the local Obeah religion that blends folk magic and African rituals.
