April 23, 2007 (Nine O'Clock / Carmen Criste / SIBIU, Romania) -- Within the speech delivered at the Reunion of Honorary Consuls from Sibiu, Minister of Foreign Affairs Adrian Cioroianu asked the 65 consuls from the 43 countries of the world to help him promote the image of our country worldwide. "Let us together put Romania on the map!" was the message conveyed by Minister Cioroianu to the honorary consuls. He urged them to talk, in the countries they live, about Romania’s assets and beauties, but also not be afraid to use symbols which attract tourists: Dracula and House of People. "Dracula could become a gold mine for Romania provided it is used wisely. The charm of this country consists in its diversity. I regret to tell you that People’s Palace (now hosting both chambers of parliament) from Bucharest is the most visited building in Romania," Adrian Cioroianu admitted in his speech. The Minister also talked about the first city which became European Cultural Capital. "Sibiu is one of the brightest faces of Romania at this moment, not only because it is an European Cultural Capital of the year but also because it represents a interface of that Romania that is developing, is dynamic and it is capably of showing that our image should not be confined only to the standard images with stray dogs and children sleeping under bridges," according to Minister Cioroianu. Romanian - Russian relations, based on pragmatism On Thursday, the Romanian Minister of Foreign Affairs had, in Belgrade, within the Ministerial Reunion BSEC (Black Sea Economic Cooperation), a meeting with his Russian counterpart Sergey Lavrov. "We need to substantiate our actions on the joint interest, on mutual benefits and on capitalizing a very good potential for trade and industry and also in the cultural and social fields," the Russian official declared at the end of the meeting for the daily newspaper ‘Gandul.’ "We want to be partners within the context of discussions on the joint construction of the European security," Lavrov added. "Romania needs to pursue a courageous policy, but not an aggressive one," as the Romanian Minister of Foreign Affairs added. Thus, according to Cioroianu, the relationship with Russian Federation could eventually become normal.
