May 25, 2008 (Anime News Network) -- Dark Horse Comics is planning to bring Hideyuki Kikuchi, the author of the Vampire Hunter D novels and several dozen other books, to September 26-28's New York Anime Festival. Novel translator Kevin Leahy will also attend the New York City convention with Kikuchi. Dark Horse editor Carl Horn revealed the plans at a FanimeCon panel in California on Saturday. In addition to Vampire Hunter D, Kikuchi wrote the novel inspirations for Demon City Shinjuku, Wicked City, and A Wind Named Amnesia anime. Even more of his novels have been adapted into manga also. New York Anime Festival programming manager Peter Tatara called Vampire Hunter D "one of anime's most iconic characters and a story that brought a generation into fandom." Kikuchi and Vampire Hunter D manga artist Saiko Takaki are also planning to attend Anime Expo in Los Angeles in July, courtesy of Digital Manga Publishing.
