May 25, 2008 (Anime News Network) -- Dark Horse Comics is planning to bring Hideyuki Kikuchi, the author of the Vampire Hunter D novels and several dozen other books, to September 26-28's New York Anime Festival.

Novel translator Kevin Leahy will also attend the New York City convention with Kikuchi. Dark Horse editor Carl Horn revealed the plans at a FanimeCon panel in California on Saturday. In addition to Vampire Hunter D, Kikuchi wrote the novel inspirations for Demon City Shinjuku, Wicked City, and A Wind Named Amnesia anime. Even more of his novels have been adapted into manga also.

New York Anime Festival programming manager Peter Tatara called Vampire Hunter D "one of anime's most iconic characters and a story that brought a generation into fandom." Kikuchi and Vampire Hunter D manga artist Saiko Takaki are also planning to attend Anime Expo in Los Angeles in July, courtesy of Digital Manga Publishing.

I have yearned for tonight for so long,
In nights dark cloak I wait.
How can what we want be wrong?
When all we feel is love not hate.

I nestled in the hay.
Whilst listening for the churchyard clock,
To chime the hours away.

I felt not fearful of the night,
Or anything within.
For he had given me clearer sight,
Of nature and her kin.

Though he was only a humble man,
And I a highborn lady.
We loved as no two others can,
For that was our sweet destiny.
