I swear to you I'll never get tired of it. Especially standing there as they keep on digging, thinking to myself that they can't possibly think they are so intelligent, so good at their tales, so velvet tongued that I'm simply hypnotized by them and believe every word.
For instance, A woman came into the store and walked up to me and said she had bought a ring there recently and it needed repairing. **Read: I'm going to try to get this for free by mentioning that I got it here and making it look like within a few weeks it suddenly broke**
She produces a ring that is crushed with the sides so close together that a pencil would barely fit through it. She proceeds, "My husband and I were at the movies and I was eating popcorn. After the lights came on after the movie I looked down and it was like this!" I waited silently to hear more, smiling, as she could obviously tell I was not going to buy it and trying to make it sound more believable. " I don't know how this could have happened, maybe it was weak?" I held the ring and pressed on it with my fingers till it made a small ridge in my fingertip. "Nope, it seems strong enough to me. Let me get my jeweler to come out and take a look" I called for him and he came out and she again told the tale of the amazing ring cave-in within the popcorn bucket. "He laughed and said "Well, it would certainly take more than popcorn to crush a ring into that shape. Must have been more than that, did you have the butter topping on the popcorn?" (note he was being completely sarcastic) Her eyes got very big at the idea of a sudden 'out for her lie. "Yes, I did! Do you think that could have weakened the metal causing it to do that?? I knew I should have told my husband not to get that on there! The sales person here didn't tell us about that being a concern though. We should have been told!" **read I'm still trying to get the repair for no charge by blaming everything from the paranormal to buttery topping on this** I told her the cost for a new shank on her ring and she railed back. "Oh I'm not going to pay all of that for a mistake on your part! I should have been told about the topping thing!" My jeweler replied that it was most definitely not that, that only "a good trip into a garbage disposal, or being crushed in a door would have caused that kind of damage". That is when I decided to have a little fun with her just for my own amusement. "Can you put the ring on your finger and show us what happened? So that we can see how it was on your hand when you saw it there. Perhaps that will help us figure out what happened." Well, obviously she 'fake struggled' to get it on, the ring and what squashed it would have crushed her finger to splinters if it HAD been on when the damage happened. So she continued to say that it was clearly able to slip on and off due to the lubricating action of said buttery topping probably. But that today with dry hands, it was not going to go on. Truth is by this time I had found out that she bought the ring 9 years ago and had brought it in several times for 'mysterious repairs' many times before. Each time she amazingly needed it to be restored, but to a different size each time. Apparently she just didn't want to pay to have it sized and smacked it with some hammer, a car or some 'high powered buttery topping' when it no longer fit her.
I just found it entertaining that she must have spent time and effort everytime to come up with a very believable sounding story each time. Only to settle with one that freaking lame.
lol She must have been so giddy at the thought that we had just handed her years worth of new excuses in the form of powerful, rogue, ring eating condiments.
Unless you have shown me proof of something, or I have found some, or it makes sense, I do not believe it. Even if I let you think I do.

LOL
I've had people like that come into the shop where I work, we even get shop lifters trying to get refunds on stolen goods from other shops. It never ceases to amaze me how low some people will go.

Heh...
Sounds like many of the customers that come into my store... It's amazing what people can think up as an excuse to get out of paying something...
