Out of cold black space came light and earth and water, and out of these came the garden behind my house.

The garden is mine-- or it is me, I'm not sure anymore.

I can walk in my lilac bushes and lilies and the yellow roses and my scalp will be sunburned.
I will wince when I brush my miles of brown hair that night.

I go out on my balcony to look at my garden in the black.
Soon the trellis shudders violently, and he lumbers over the wrought iron rail.

He bestows upon me a gift of azalea, broken from one of my bushes-- or stripped from me, there is no difference.
He kisses me cautiously, playing the part of the lover even though he knows he can have what he wants.

Minutes later, looking over his shoulder into the sky, I decide to stop paying attention.
I count stars for entertainment.
I only reach 30 before he is drawing away.

Vows of undying love waft behind him as he goes home to his third wife.
I brush my hair again.
I walk naked in my garden; all of the blooms and leaves are black and grey and sepia toned.

I forget about the crack in the path tonight, and I sit still after my fall.
I move the hair away from my eyes.
Night-black blood trails from my knee, cleaner than any person or substance or thought in the universe that came from cold black space.

Lore of the Vampire
The vampire has held its place in superstition as long as any other creature. The vampire of today is, for the most part, quite different from the one of ancient times. In researching the vampire lore, I attempted to find out just how different they are. I wondered what people thought of them now compared to yesteryear.

To see the world from another point of view,
How will you see it?
When it comes down to one thing,
How will you leave us?
With the callus laughter,
Seen in the drunken picture I took of you?
Or in another time,
Another world?
Could you look back on your life,
And know that you were only human?
No metaphors,
No similes.... Just you?
Or will you exaggerate it like I do,
And make you into a hero....
Could you see life and the world as it is around you?
Or be brazen about it, and dive head on...

Oftentimes there is nothing

Over seascapes and skies grey

Crumpled and breathing in

heather, lavender and orange peel.

People stand and stare at Me
eyes accusing, watching Me
makin' remarks and downin' Me
but still today I'm here.

They'd make me want to hurt Myself
want to break and bleed Myself
till My soul would leave this hell
but still today I'm here.

I got real strong to stop the tears
made Myself forget My fears
turned away and closed My ears
and today I am truly here.
