A great glowing orb sinks behind the horizon
Another sphere, silver and shimmering, rises to take her brother's place
Farewell Apollo, greetings Diana
Cast your light upon this hurt little girl
Fill her with your understanding and love
Do not let her weep in anguish

She looks up to the silvery orb
Diana's light glitters, filling the girl's tears with specks of fairy dust
The girl stands up, lifting her arms
"Diana," she whispers, "take me home"

Silver light surrounds the girl
She stands, letting Diana's gentle fingertips brush away tears of pain and fury
Clouds whistle by as she drifts hand in hand with Diana
Diana explains to the girl that her pain does not go unnoticed
Diana explains that Apollo has felt the girl's pain
Diana tells the girl that she is, indeed, understood

The girl turns away
The silver light fades
"You lie to me, Diana," she says
"You promise me happiness and my trust is rewarded with lies!"
Diana frowns and draws her bow
She fits an arrow into place and takes aim

"No!" cries the girl, but it is too late
Diana has seen her blackened heart
Diana has seen her scarred, unforgiving soul

"I thought I could change you," Diana weeps
"Apollo was right; you have not learned to love
"You are lost, little one, lost for all time"

The girl falls to her knees, begging for forgiveness
Diana refuses and pulls the bow taunt
"Forgive me, dear girl," Diana whispers with a cry
"I cannot save you as I thought I could"

The girl bows her head, sobs and cries out
"No, Diana! You are the only one I have learned to love!
"Do not betray me and loose your arrow, I beg you!"

Diana only smiles, a sad, hurt grin
"You cannot love me, girl," Diana says with a sigh
"Without first learning to love yourself"

"I can love!" cries the girl
"Just give me a chance! That's all I ask for, just one little chance"

Diana shakes her head, her face filled with pain
"You had many chances, sixteen years' worth.
"You wasted them all on selfish, petty pride.
"You never remembered the lesson I taught all those years ago, did you, little one?"
Diana shakes her head again and pulls the bow back a little more, almost to the breaking point.
"You never learned that you have to care for yourself before you are able to care for others"

Then Diana loosed the arrow
And that was when I fell into the world where no one trusts anyone else
And Diana weeps for me still

I stand at the crossroads
With no friend in sight
When an old man comes
And laughs at my plight
He goes down
My old path
I look to the left
And then to the right
I then look back
And see that man
Point left and disappear
I turn down the path
And it goes to my grave
I look back and then go ahead
I face death
And then I wake

From the hinges of night: silence. Except the far-away swashing of the sea, this vast penetrating pulsation of ancient waters on the coasts of the island. Which could be Sicily, or Sardinia, or one of the Barbados. We have no datum points, no parameters.

I surrendered to you,

You took it all,

I wanted forever

You gave me naught

I wanted love and

you gave me hate.
