I decided that I'm just not going to call it the "Fourth of July" . It's The Fourth of July in Canada, and France and England and every other country and they do not celebrate it. Americans celebrate it because its the day we became Independant. Being self supporting and free is a pretty good reason to celebrate.
I don't want to see this day referred to to in the same way as Cinco De Mayo. As only a day to get drunk and blow up stuff. (though I do find it funny that we spend so much money in chinese fireworks on this day) .
I also hope that other countries do not slip into the habit of simply referring to a date as a holiday with maybe a muddied reference to it. Or one day we will be wishing eachother a "Happy December twenty fifth" or Hanging up decorations with bats that simply say "Happy October Thirty First!"
