Let's start right in at the beginning then, with the first Renfield. At least, the first Renfield who was actually called by that name. He is a character in Bram Stoker's classic, _Dracula_, who is somehow psychically linked with the vampire.

Huffing and puffing, Renfield slowly dragged the hand-cart up the pathway. It had been a while since he had to do this, and he was a bit out of shape as a result. "Why the Master just doesn't let me use some sort of 20th century automotive device to deliver this stuff, I'll never know". But he learned not to question his Master's word.


He stopped the cart in front of the doorway, and began to pull some bottles from within it. Wine bottles, to be exact, but of course his Master never drinks wine, nor do any of his guests, as far as he knows.

August 19, 2007 (Science Daily) -- Vampire bats that live in Latin America have switched to blood meals from cattle instead of from rainforest mammals, ecological physiologists from the Leibniz Institute for Zoo and Wildlife Research, Berlin, the Freie Universität Berlin, the Humboldt Universität zu Berlin and the University of Aberdeen report in the Journal of Comparative Physiology B.
