Knaak, Richard A. _Frostwing_. New York, Warner Books (Aspect), 1995.
Also not a vampire book (sorry, I just haven't been able to go book shopping for awhile), but a very, very scary one.
It concerns a centuries-old man with some occult powers, named Grigori Nicolau, who is being haunted in his dreams by an evil gargoyle named Frostwing. The creature steals his memories and torments him, and always leaves behind some physical evidence of his visit (torn chair cushions, eg). Grigori moves constantly, as Frostwing's visits and his own powers and immortality mean he cannot stay in one place for long. His latest move is to Chicago, where he learns of a mysterious house that is summoning people with the power and steel-blue eyes. Grigori _has_ steel blue eyes. So does the lovely real estate agent who is trying to sell the house, and who cannot figure out why the people who come to see it are never heard from again. That the house is also tied to Frostwing and his nefarious purposes becomes quickly clear. A struggle for power involving an ancient sorcerer, the gargoyle, Grigori and several others is soon underway.
This is a very gripping book. Don't read it alone on a stormy night!
