Circus of the Damned

CIRCUS OF THE DAMNED by Laurell K. Hamilton. 1995

This is the third book in the series concerning Anita Blake, necromancer, animator of the dead and vampire hunter. In this alternate American reality, vampires, werewolves and other monsters are common and have the same rights as humans. Jean Claude, the vampire Master of the City has had the hots for Anita for a long time. He has already bitten her twice and after two more bites she will become his human servant - a fate she wants to avoid at all cost.

In this book, her life becomes more difficult as a new vampire moves into town and wants to take over the city. She is the pawn caught in the middle of the power struggle.

Like the first two books (Guilty Pleasures and The Laughing Corpse), this book has plenty of suspense, action, and bits of humour thrown in. I hope there will be more in this series.

From the Darkness someone calls out,
Just to know what this life is all about,
I see the faint outline of someone walking on the shore,
Sometimes I catch sequences of dreams, oh to remember more.

I Swam towards that fading light,
If I had but know that was to be my plight,
"You should stay safe within this place,
You'll be better off this way" said the Handsome Face.

Is it any wonder I'm still here,
in this place full of fear?
Escape at this juncture would be futile,
