Vampire Detectives

VAMPIRE DETECTIVES edited by Martin Greenberg. 1995
A mixture of stories about detectives hunting vampires and detectives who are vampires. Authors include P.N. Elrod, Tanya Huff, Richard Laymon, J.N. Williamson and others.
One of my favourites was "This Town Ain't Big Enough" by Tanya Huff. In this story, Victory Nelson a detective recently turned vampire has to win back her city from a much stronger and older rival. Well done story with a unique way of winning a battle against a much stronger vampire.
In Richard Laymon's "Phil the Vampire", a detective is put into a peculiar position when a woman hires him to kill her vampire husband. An enjoyable story with a most unusual ending.
Douglas Borton's "Fangs" is the story of a police hunt for a serial killer who drains the victims of all their blood. That description makes it sound like standard cops and vampires fare, but the ending of the story is unusual and rather poignant.
There are many other interesting stories in this book. I'm not usually a fan of short story fiction, but for the vampire fan, this book is worth getting.
