The beat goes on in the newest issue of BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER Season Eight written by Joss “The Joss” Whedon. Willow has taken the spotlight in this issue and Amy (once know as Amy the rat) is out for revenge again.
The big fandom issue of Buffy being over Spike and Angel has been answered in one panel of her fantasies. It looks as if Buffy is finally a cookie that is done baking and is looking to become a vampire Oreo. Ethan Rayne has returned if only briefly to wander through Buffy’s dreamscape with her and I can’t help but think this will come back around to bite her in the ass.
Who wakes up Buffy with a kiss of true love? Willow, Xander, or did Willow magic someone into the room (someone undead)? And, why did Buffy taste cinnamon rolls when she sat up?
Dawn gets in on the action to help stomp out Amy the witch, and Whedon gets to use his trademarked dialogue where you didn’t have to catch the entire conversation to know that what you do hear is generally not intended for preschool toys and is extremely funny. In other words the Buffy and Willow exchange about how Dawn got to be a giant involving Buffy “being covered in it.”
In fact, there is so much sexual innuendo in this comic, it's obvious that people who are saving the world don’t have a lot of time to get nookie. Willow’s girlfriend Kennedy is dead and resurrected, which I could do without. Kennedy was never one of my favorites. Bring back Tara! Bring Back Anya too while you’re at it Joss…he loves to kill and resurrect characters and now he can do it without actor’s schedules or contacts getting in the way.
Willow gets sucked into a vortex and at the end we reveal what I had pretty much guessed at in the first issue…WARREN is back! Skinless, but he’s back. Does this mean that Willow is going to have to go dark to kill him again? I kinda hope so because that is my absolute favorite Willow storyline (even though it cost us Tara).
Next issue wraps up this first story arc, but does this end Whedon’s run on the book? How many issues is he writing again? I can’t remember, but if they are all this good, I will keep buying them.
