There once was a place -- sacred to some, unholy to others -- where many of the VO Elders would gather to discuss the fate of the world, the fate of each other, and everything in between.

This place, The Black Raven Inn, closed under mysterious circumstances a few years ago.

But lately some have reported movement within its walls.

June 20, 2007 (The Daily Times / Rhys Saunders / Aztec, NM) -- A 28-year-old man who did not deny robbing and attacking a man dressed as a vampire Oct. 31 outside Safeway on West Main Street in Farmington was sentenced Monday to three years of supervised probation.

The story of Arnod Paole is one of the few vampire histories that has been sufficiently documented over the years to lend it historical validity. In the spring of 1727, Arnod Paole returned from service in the military to settle in his home town of Meduegna, near Belgrade. He bought some land, built a home and established himself in the community. After a short time, he was betrothed to a local girl whose father's land bordered his, and the two were wed.

I'm one of those scientific types who don't believe in the supernatural so my first reaction was skepticism. However, because of my romantic streak, I really wanted to believe in the existence of vampires in all their supernatural glory. So I discussed this with a friend who has a degree in psychology. The question was: is it possible that there can be real, supernatural, blood drinking, classical vampires?
