A rash of American kidnappings sends two CIA agents to Bucharest, Romania. When the kidnapper's body is found impaled on the spire of infamous Castle Orlock, the last thing they expect is for the disappearances to continue. Their investigation leads them to an evil that is darker and older than the town itself. An ancient Gargoyle, sealed for centuries in a subterranean catacomb, has escaped and is taking vengeance on the town.

Will I allow you to drag me down?

Will I allow you to hurt me now?

Will I spend the rest of my life wondering what I did this time?

Or will I stand up and walk away?

    I am worthless,

    I am foolish,

    I am a disgrace.

    Thank you for enlightening me.

Credited as the first modern vampire poem, "Der Vampir" caused a scandal when it was published in 1748. This short poem by Heinrich August Ossenfelder has strong erotic overtones: a man whose love is rejected by a respectable and pious maiden threatens to pay her a nightly visit, drink her blood by giving her the seductive kiss of the vampire and thus prove her that his teaching is better than her mother's Christianity.

    I bounce
    I shout
    I jump for joy
    I laugh
    I run
    I'm so happy
    that it's no longer fun
    I annoy
    I destroy
    I can't stop
    but I enjoy
    I'm manic
    and stuck
    in a too happy place
    I'm crazy happy

His fixation on her and his beliefs about how this cruel vampire stepped out of the role and into his life to barter for his soul eventually turned deadly.

    I miss you, dark angel,
    In ways I never thought
    I would;
    As A cup-companion,
    A partner in adventures,
    Confidant & co-conspirator,
    Fellow-lover of pseudo-life:
    We hunted together
In the shadows, the cloak of the night.
Even though Another wooed me towards the Light,
Seduced me for time into the Day.
    But it did not last,
    The sun set.
You remind of the patient Darkness
    In my own soul;
The windows which, drawn, could be curtained
Or withdrawn to show a glimmer of shuttered light.
